How To Restrict Sales order Pick (OR) WIP Component Pick Release From Picking Material From A Specific Subinventory or Locator ?
Option #1: Using Picking Priorities on Subinventories
Create picking rules to pick based on priority at the Subinventory level. With this option, Subinventories will not be eliminated from the picking process, but, they could be reduced in priority. If this subinventory is the only subinventory with quantity, then, users can still pick from it.
Here are the detailed steps -
1. Setup Picking Order on Subinventories from Inventory > Setup > Organizations > Subinventories
2. Create a Picking Rule with the desired subinventory sort criteria and rank (if using more than one criteria)
3. Launch Component Pick Release.
4. The pick release process would now prioritize based on the criteria. (For example shown in screenshot above, Onhand quantity in FGI would be considered first, instead of Engineer subinventory)
Option #2: Using Material Status (Allowed / Disallowed Transactions)
If you are using Material status at Subinventory / Locator / Lot Level - Use Material Status to assign a material status at Subinventory / Locator level that will disallow "WIP Issue" (and other transactions Ex: Staging Transfer, Ship Confirm as desired) . This subinventory or locator will no longer be used for the list of disallowed transactions.
If you are using Onhand Material Status - Use Material Workbench to assign status at the onhand level for the quantity that should not be considered for the disallowed transactions.
** (Pre-requisite: Profile INV: Material Status Support should be set to "Yes")
Here are the detailed steps -
1. Enable status control on the transaction type (Inventory > Setup > Transactions > Types)
2. Setup a new Material Status to disallow / restrict transactions from using this material (Note: Transaction types will appear on the left pane only if the "Status Control" check box is checked in step1)
2. Assign this Material status to the subinventory or locator that should be restricted from the transaction. (*Note: This status should be assigned at the onhand level from Material Workbench, if using Onhand Material Status)
3. Launch WIP Component Pick Release / Sales Order Pick Release.
4. You will see that the onhand in the subinventory with status "DISALLOW_PICK" will not be considered for picking.
